Outer Banks of North Carolina

Leaving Charleston we headed north, taking what the map book called a "scenic route". We think that was a very loose interpertation of the word scenic. The Myrtle Beach area with hundreds of T-shirt stores and endless miniature golf courses does NOT qualify as scenic. Eventually we made it to Emerald Island, the southern starting point to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After a couple of ferry boat rides we arrive at the gorgeous and remote beaches of Cape Hatteras. Now this is what we call scenic! Check it out.

Ahh, the warm waters of the Atlantic!

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, the oldest city in South Carolina, is known for it's polite and hospitable people. We agree!   Following are pics from our enjoyable day seeing the historic sites and eating the tasty southern food.

It is also known as "The Holy City" having many churches and cemeteries.
We loved the sign at this cemetery.

We enjoyed rooftop dinning at the Crab House with a cool breeze and view of the city. The crab cakes, oysters, shrimp, king crab and fried green tomatoes was the perfect fare for Charleston.

Our campsite on James Island was just a short drive across the bay from Charleston. This place was just how we'd picture the South to be with spanish moss hanging from the huge trees, peaceful lagoons, alligators and a slow pace to enjoy it all.

And the Home of the Braves

The Braves stadium is called Turner Field but it should be known as the house that Hank Aaron built. His baseball accomplishments are memorialized throughout the ball park. The Braves were not in town so we took a tour of the stadium which was great because it would have been a rain out anyway.
Check out the stadium seat that depicts Hank's infamous home run swing.

Tom is waiting out the rain in the dugout for his turn to pinch hit.
Miss Liberty was a gift from the Yankees and the cow is the Braves biggest cheerleader
doing the tomahawk chop.

Driving Miss Daisy

Here are a few pics of our view as we drove through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

Oops, who photo bombed? Well, that would be Miss Daisy, a little stray pup we picked up in Mississippi. She's very well behaved and keeps the barking to a minimum. Woof!

This little cutie is Kristie who is married to Tom's cousin Mark Washington. Originally from Kentucky but currently living in Georgia, she is gifted with southern charm and beauty. We had a short but sweet visit with them in their lovely home. Sorry we didn't snap a pic of Mark before he was off to a meeting. He and his daughter are going on missions trip to Malaysia. So great to be related to you guys, love you!
