Homeward Bound

The final days of our coast to coast trip had quite a variety of scenery as we traveled the last 2000 miles toward home. From green picturesque farm lands in Iowa to a torrential downpour in Nebraska, we love watching the world change through the lens of our windshield.

As we crossed into Colorado we got an emergency alert on the radio for a tornado warning in the local county we were in. Ok, well, then what are we supposed to do? The sky was certainly very dark to the south of us but in front of us was clear so we just kept driving. After all, tornados don't go into the mountains, right? Whew! We thank God for His protection and for the blue skies ahead.
Then sleet and pour visibility made it a slow drive through the 10,000 foot Vail pass in Colorado
Dropping down to a lower elevation the skies cleared and it turned into a gorgeous sunny day.
We stopped for the night at a campground we stayed in 16 years ago.
Our site was right on the Colorado River, like about 4 feet away from the very full rushing river's edge.

WooHoo...Lorraine was just a little bit too excited about it all
The familiar sound of train wheels screeching on the tracks (throughout the night)
brought back memories of this place years ago.
And this little goldfinch was persistently singing and looking for a mate and thought he found her in the side mirror. Ahhhhh!
We enjoyed the beautiful sunny morning before starting down the road again.
Thankfully, the only casualty of the trip was a lost hubcap which popped off when we hit a deep rut.

Our last night was spent in Zion where we talked about and cherished all the great memories of our past month on the road. So many beautiful places and fun times with our family and each other. Thank you Lord!
We are sad our trip is over but coming home to San Clemente is a vacation itself.
Life is good!
